Instead of bidding on the originally planned demolition of the historic Halifax Hotel, originally built in 1905, the Hurt & Sons team purchased the condemned hotel building that would have otherwise been completely demolished due to its extreme distressed state caused by severe hurricane damage. In a very short time, not only did the team save a crucial building in the heart of Halifax’s commercial district, but with creative solutions and specialized expertise, Hurt & Sons redeveloped the historic Halifax Hotel into a 16-unit apartment building. Over a century ago, this area served as the bustling town center, housing prominent establishments such as the Roanoke Hotel, Bank of Halifax, Drug Store, and General Store. Today, these storied landmarks are being revitalized to breathe new life into the neighborhood, transforming into more than a dozen contemporary urban 1-bedroom apartments situated above four street-level retail shops. Anchored by a charming boutique and salon, these refurbished spaces promise to infuse the area with renewed vitality and appeal.
